Lenten Season Opportunities
Ash Wednesday Drive Thru Ashes
Colonial Church is offering drive through Imposition of Ashes on Wednesday, February 18, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Pastor Michael and Pastor Heather will be in the driveway in front of the church to place ashes in the sign of the cross on the foreheads (or hand). Everyone is welcome to participate as we begin the holy season of Lent. Ash Wednesday is a reminder of our shared humanity as "from dust we were created, and to dust we will return."
February 18 - 7:30-8:30 AM
Lenten Book Study
Sundays at 9:15AM
Begins February 22
This year’s Lenten book study invites us into a conversation across centuries as we read "Wisdom Distilled from the Daily" by Joan Chittister. This wise and accessible book asks an important question: how might a fifth-century spiritual text still speak meaningfully to our lives today?
We will explore what Benedictine spirituality teaches us about community, balance, humility, hospitality, prayer, and the sacredness of everyday life. Far from being a dry relic of monastic history, the Rule of Saint Benedict offers practical guidance for living thoughtfully and compassionately with one another in a complex, fast-paced world.
This Lenten season, come to reflect, question, and listen together as we discern what “the wisdom of the daily” might mean for our own lives and our shared life as a community.
Begins: Sunday, February 22 for 5 weeks, Sundays at 9:15 am in the Multi-Purpose Room. Click here to register. Book available here or from your preferred bookseller.
Friday, April 3 - 7:00 PM
Good Friday Worship
Come together to remember the profound loss and grief of the death of Jesus Christ.
At a time when we experience an almost daily bombardment of difficult news in our communities and across the nation, we gather to recall a simple truth: we are not alone. There is something deeply powerful about sharing moments of sorrow and uncertainty with one another. We are reminded that life is not meant to be lived in isolation, and that we are stronger together than we are apart.
Join us for a meaningful evening of communion, prayer, and music offered by our soloists under the leadership of our organist and music director, Dr. Joseph Kern.

We Exist to Be a Blessing.
Colonial Church was founded to be a “mission post on Mission Road.” We envision ourselves not as settlers, but as a growing colony of love and grace—cultivating compassion, community, and justice in the heart of Prairie Village.
Inclusive. Accepting. Welcoming.
At Colonial Church in Prairie Village, we believe that everyone deserves a spiritual home where they can belong and be celebrated for who they are.
As a proud member of the United Church of Christ, we are an Open and Affirming congregation, committed to fully embracing people of all orientations, identities, and expressions.
Here, you’ll find a warm, inclusive community that honors each person’s journey, supports one another in faith, and strives to make a positive impact in the world. Whether you’re seeking connection, purpose, or a place to grow, you have a place with us. Welcome home!
“We covenant to walk together in Christian Love... to worship God in spirit and in truth...and to love our neighbors as ourselves.”
